Volunteering
Volunteers play such an important role in our children's education. There are many opportunities to volunteer at Hawthorne. You can help your child's teacher; become active in the School Site Council; assist with the Book Fair, Jog-A-Thon, Halloween Carnival; chaperone field trips, and more. We appreciate our volunteers and all they do to make Hawthorne great!
Volunteer Applications and information are available in the main office.
In order to protect and assure the health and safety of our students, the school district has established guidelines for volunteers. Any individual who will be with students needs to go through the volunteer clearance process, which is done ANNUALLY. Please fully read all papers, complete the Volunteer Application form, and return all documents with you when submitting the application to the office. All volunteers are required to have their names searched on the Megan's Law website (this includes parents who visit their children during lunch periods), have a current TB test, and fill out an annual District School Volunteer Application.
PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING VOLUNTEER INFORMATION TO THE MAIN OFFICE AT HAWTHORNE:
Completed School Volunteer Application (needs to completed annually).
Tuberculosis Testing (TB) - All volunteers are required to provide one of the following: proof of a negative TB test, Chest X-ray, or TB Risk Assessment (need to be born in the United States) Questionnaire. Please keep a copy of your TB test for the next school year. You will need to resubmit your TB result with a new volunteer application annually. (TB clearances are valid for 4 years with SDUSD)
Valid Identification: Driver's License or State Identification Card
Volunteer Code of Conduct - Please read, sign and return with your volunteer application.
All Volunteers are required to sign in/out at the front office and wear a volunteer badge when on campus. If you have not completed the volunteer clearance process, you will be considered a "visitor" on campus and will not be permitted to work directly with the children or attend field trips.
Volunteer assignments cannot begin until you receive notification from Lori Shuman, Volunteer Coordinator that you have been cleared.
Thank You For Volunteering!
