Meet Our Principal - Ms. Lauren Robinson
Welcome to Hawthorne Elementary School and the 2022-23 school year. Leading the Hawthorne Huskies continues to be a dream come true and my greatest joy!
I have over 20 years of experience in education, starting as an instructional assistant at the elementary level, and then a teacher and instructional coach at the middle school level. I was raised here in the Madison Cluster, where I attended elementary, middle and high school. I am proud to now serve as the principal of Hawthorne for the seventh year, in the same cluster where I first found my love of learning.
While this school year may find us facing more challenges that normal with technology, online learning, and health concerns around COVID-19, I rest assured that the Husky Community will rise to the occassion and be able to look back on the work we accomplish with great pride.
I hold the highest level of pride for the children of Hawthorne and the amazing staff. Hawthorne is the highest testing school in the Madison Cluster. Our performance on state, distirct, and classroom assessments was tremendous last year. It follows our double digit growth two years ago and the sustained growth that led to the school being awarded the honor of being a California Distinguished School in 2020! We simply could not have assesmbled a better team to meet the needs of this community. That team involves the children, their families, the staff and the community. This team has responded to the pandemic and necessary but ongoing changes with nothing short of an amazing spirit.
I will continue to embrace the opportunity improve our school with new programs and by strenghening existing ones. Our mission statement and vision guide the work we do each day. We are committed to The Husky Way in order to develop ourselves as better citizens of the world. The students and staff will also continue to teach social and emotional skills through the highly regarded Second Step Curriculum. This program will teach conflict resolution and emotion processing.
I am passionate about continuing the great work that is done here. We as a staff are committed to reaching each and every student and making a positive differnce in their lives. I believe that incredible growth in all students, teachers, parents, community members, and myself requires risk taking, a growth mindset, and an attitude of leaning--from success and from failures.
I encourage parents and families to get involved with the school, so much so that we have a new goal for every parent to volunteer a minimum of 5 hours of service to the school through PTA, working in classrooms, or working from home. Please look for more information about how you can help contribute during the time of COVID-19 campus closures soon.
Great things are happening at Hawthorne. Our risk taking and relentless pursuit of excellence and continuous cycle of imporvement have made a difference. We are seeing more famillies in the neighborhood enroll their kids and become active on campus. Our children are happier, experiencing success and thriving! #HawthorneHuskyPride
It is important to me to know each member of our learning community and to be available and visible on campus. Please come by to chat, send me an email, or call the office.
Looking forward to another amazing year!
Always a learner,
Ms. Lauren Robinson
